Dubai’s Digital Readiness Retreat showcased the visionary plans for artificial intelligence (AI) applications in societal advancement. Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, the UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, emphasized the pivotal role of technology and digital transformation in driving the country’s government and economic growth, under the wise leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the proactive vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

In his session titled “Artificial Intelligence: A Visionary Perspective for Serving Society”, part of the Digital Readiness Retreat organized by the UAE’s higher committee for government digital transformation, Oman Al Olama highlighted the UAE’s journey towards prosperity, emphasizing the country’s focus on keeping pace with global changes and technological updates. He noted that AI solutions have experienced the fastest adoption rate in human history, necessitating even greater government adaptation to maintain a leading position in this field.

Economic Opportunities and Challenges in AI were also discussed, mentioning that the AI sector is anticipated to contribute significantly to the UAE’s GDP, potentially raising productivity by 50%. On the flip side, challenges such as deep fakes used for fraud and automated generation of toxic compounds have also been accruing. Despite such issues, AI has saved millions in manufacturing costs and generated substantial commercial value for businesses. The Abu Dhabi Environment Authority has effectively deployed AI for soil monitoring, demonstrating the potential of AI in enhancing community welfare and security.
