OpenAI has officially launched its GPT Store, allowing users to create and share custom chatbots. This new platform enables customers to develop bespoke chatbot models in various categories, including writing, research, programming, and lifestyle. Previously, users could create chatbots using the paid version of ChatGPT, but they were unable to make them public. Now, paying users can easily create chatbots without the need for coding and share them with others.
The GPT Store features an array of personalized chatbots. One noteworthy example is AllTrails’ chatbot, offering personalized trail recommendations. Khan Academy’s Code Tutor allows users to expand their coding skills, while Canva’s chatbot assists with designing presentations or social media posts.
While GPT creators cannot charge for their chatbots, OpenAI has announced that they will receive a share of revenue starting in the first quarter of 2024. Further details on revenue sharing will be provided soon. Initially, builders located in the United States will be the first to receive compensation based on user engagement.
In addition to the GPT Store, OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Team, a subscription plan tailored for businesses with fewer than 150 employees. This plan provides access to advanced models, a collaborative workspace, administrative tools, and higher usage caps. ChatGPT Team is available for $25 per user per month on an annual basis or $30 on a month-to-month plan.
The launch of the GPT Store faced significant delays due to leadership turmoil within OpenAI. The company’s CEO, Sam Altman, initially announced the GPT Store at Developer Day in early November. However, following his dismissal by the board later that month, Altman was reinstated after the majority of OpenAI staff threatened to quit.
