Amazon Expands AI-Generated Image Feature on Fire TV Devices

Amazon is unveiling an innovative upgrade to its Fire TV lineup by introducing AI-generated images. Users with a second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Omni QLED Series in the U.S. can now access this feature, which enables them to create customized images using their voice through Alexa.

This new capability is powered by Amazon’s Titan Image Generator, which was initially revealed at the AWS re:Invent 2023 conference. Similar to other image generators, such as Stability AI and OpenAI’s DALL-E 3, the Titan model transforms written prompts into visual representations. However, the Fire TV AI feature stands out as it is activated by speaking to Alexa via the TV remote.

By simply instructing Alexa with voice commands like, “Alexa, create a background of a fairy landscape,” users can generate four images. These images can then be further personalized by selecting from a range of artistic styles, including impressionistic, watercolor, and fantasy. Once a final image is chosen, users have the option to save it and set it as their TV background.

While the Titan model allows customization of existing images, Fire TV’s feature does not currently support this functionality. Amazon has not provided any specific timeframe on when users will be able to input their personal photos into the generator.

This AI-generated image feature is part of the Fire TV Ambient Experience, which enhances the TV’s display by showcasing artist-made backgrounds or personal photos from an Amazon Photos account. Initially introduced in Amazon’s Omni Series lineup of Fire TVs, the experience has now been extended to the Fire TV Stick 4K Max.

Amazon’s latest announcement regarding the AI-generated image feature coincides with the company’s other recent introductions, such as improved voice search capabilities on Fire TV devices. Users can now ask Alexa more specific questions based on cast, directors, genres, or even describe a scene from a movie.

Furthermore, Amazon has expanded its generative AI-powered Alexa experiences by introducing three additional features, including the “20 Questions” game, interactive conversations with AI characters, and the ability to create custom songs.
