Apple Restructures Siri Team, Streamlining Operations

In a strategic decision aimed at streamlining operations and maximizing efficiency, Apple is consolidating its Siri improvement team, a move that may result in employee terminations. Bloomberg reports that a 121-person team based in San Diego has been asked to relocate to Austin and merge with the existing Texas team.
Under the new plan, employees have until the end of February to decide whether to move or face termination on April 26. This decision affects employees in multiple offices across China, India, Ireland, and Spain.
An Apple spokesperson confirmed the restructure and stated that the company aims to bring its “Data Operations Annotations teams in the US together at our campus in Austin, where a majority of the team is already based.”
The consolidation of the Siri team comes as Apple seeks to optimize workflow and enhance collaboration between team members. By centralizing operations in a single location, Apple anticipates greater efficiency and quicker decision-making processes. While the move presents an opportunity for increased synergy and coordination, it could also result in a reduction in workforce, with several dozen employees potentially leaving the company.
It is worth noting that Apple has managed to navigate the challenges posed by the pandemic without implementing widespread layoffs, distinguishing itself from many of its industry peers. With approximately 161,000 employees as of September, the company has been proactive in adapting to the changing landscape while striving to maintain its workforce.
