Bengaluru Traffic Police Launches AI-Powered App for Effective Traffic Management

Bengaluru’s traffic police department has unveiled a state-of-the-art app powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize traffic management in the city. The newly launched app, named ASTraM (Actionable Intelligence for Sustainable Traffic Management), aims to provide real-time insights and actionable intelligence to traffic police officers for more effective traffic control.

One of the key features of the ASTraM app is its provision of real-time congestion alerts to jurisdictional traffic officials every 15 minutes. These alerts, integrated with the traffic department’s e-attendance system, are sent to specific officers responsible for managing traffic at various junctions and sectors. This enables the officials to take immediate action to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow.

Furthermore, the app’s dashboard analytics feature provides valuable intelligence on traffic conditions, road safety, and enforcement. By analyzing data on traffic volume, congestion length, vehicle count, and vehicle type, the Bengaluru Traffic Police can make data-driven decisions for more effective traffic management. The analytics also enable the prediction of potential traffic congestion by comparing real-time data with historical records, facilitating proactive measures to mitigate traffic issues.

The ASTraM app also includes a BOT service for incident reporting. Authorized sources can report field incidents through the mobile application, which then shares the information with mapping services. This enables the public to receive real-time updates on traffic incidents and allows the Traffic Management Center to coordinate with jurisdictional traffic officials and other stakeholders for prompt resolution of incidents.

Moreover, the app features a special event management feature, which maintains a log of major events in the city. This helps in understanding the traffic situation during these events and allows better response management by allocating resources and planning alternative measures. The Traffic Management Center centrally monitors such events and ensures the dissemination of necessary information for swift action.

To improve emergency services, the ASTraM app incorporates an ambulance tracking application. The control room can monitor registered ambulances in real-time, providing updates on the shortest possible routes and traffic conditions. If an ambulance is stuck in traffic for more than 120 seconds, the control room is immediately alerted. Additionally, the app includes an SOS button for drivers to seek immediate intervention when required.

With the introduction of the ASTraM app, Bengaluru’s traffic police aim to transform traffic management through the application of AI-powered technology. By equipping officers with actionable intelligence and real-time updates, the app promises to enhance traffic planning, improve road safety, and ensure more efficient traffic flow across the city.
