Humane Implements Staff Reduction Ahead of Wearable Launch

Humane, a cutting-edge wearable startup, has reportedly downsized its workforce by four percent ahead of the much-anticipated launch of its upcoming wearable device. This cost-cutting measure was recently communicated to employees by the company’s leadership, who cited a need to reduce overall expenses as the primary reason behind the decision.

The staff reduction includes the layoff of ten individuals. Humane has garnered significant investment, with Silicon Valley giants such as Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, contributing a total of $200 million in funding.

In a LinkedIn post, Humane’s CEO and co-founder, Bethany Bongiorno, emphasized that these changes reflect a broader effort to restructure the organization as it adapts to its evolving purpose and prepares for the next phase of growth. Additionally, the post revealed that CTO Patrick Gates will be transitioning into an advisory role to devote more time to his family.

Humane was established by former Apple executive Bethany Bongiorno and her spouse, Imran Chaudhri. The company has dedicated its efforts to the development of its inaugural product, the AI Pin. This wearable device, touted as a revolutionary AI assistant, was recently unveiled and is scheduled for release in the United States in March, priced at $699 USD ($935 CAD). However, it remains uncertain whether the AI Pin will become available in Canada or other international markets.

As Humane moves forward with its plans, the recently implemented staff reductions may signal the company’s commitment to streamlining operations and ensuring its long-term success in the competitive wearable technology market.
