This funding will be instrumental in the creation of micro-systems that incorporate diverse microchips. These micro-systems are utilized in various devices such as cell phones, medical equipment, drones, satellites, and military machinery like missiles and interceptors. The primary objective is to enhance the efficiency of microsystems, making them smaller, faster, and more compact.
Donna Joyce, the Army Senior Research Scientist with Protective Technologies, emphasized the significance of reshoring advanced packaging manufacturing capabilities and its impact on weapons system development. Representative Darren Soto also underscored the importance of this investment in advancing aerospace and defense microchips. He described it as critical for safeguarding the nation and protecting homeland security.
NeoCity has diligently pursued opportunities to create job prospects for the local population. Last year, the technology campus received a Build Back Better Innovation Grant of over $50 million, which promised substantial job growth. These promises are being realized, according to officials, with projections estimating the creation of 4,000 to 16,000 direct jobs and 20,000 to 80,000 indirect jobs. NeoCity’s endeavors extend beyond the semiconductor industry, aiming to diversify the local economy and provide alternative avenues to tourism and agriculture.
