In a recent study conducted by the renowned CRM leader Salesforce, it has been revealed that the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the ecommerce sector in Ireland is on the rise. The State of Commerce report, which surveyed 100 ecommerce practitioners in Ireland, highlighted the key trends and insights regarding the usage of AI, payment methods, and customer touchpoints in the buying journey.

One of the major findings of the report was that 75% of the ecommerce organizations in Ireland are already utilizing AI in some form. Out of these, 30% have fully implemented AI solutions into their operations, whereas 45% are currently experimenting with AI technologies. Furthermore, an additional 20% are evaluating the feasibility of integrating AI into their business processes.

Another significant trend highlighted in the report is the increasing popularity of digital wallets as a preferred payment method. Worldwide, the use of digital wallet payments, such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, witnessed a staggering 56% growth in Q3 of 2023 compared to the previous year. Specifically in Ireland, 65% of organizations surveyed accept Apple Pay as a payment option.

The report also emphasized the integration of commerce functionalities throughout the customer journey. It revealed that commerce is no longer limited to digital storefronts or mobile apps, but is being embedded into various touchpoints, including pre- and post-purchase interactions. For instance, 39% of Irish organizations have incorporated payment capture functionality within marketing emails, while 90% are generating additional revenue through customer service channels.

In response to the findings, Michael Affronti, GM and SVP of Commerce Cloud at Salesforce, highlighted the importance of leveraging customer data to enhance connected commerce experiences. He believes that businesses that effectively utilize customer data to drive efficiency and growth through AI-powered innovations will establish stronger customer loyalty and profitability in the future.
