France Invests in Advanced Chip Design for 5G and Autonomous Driving

France is making a significant investment in advanced chip design to drive the development of 5G and autonomous driving technologies. SCALINX, a French fabless semiconductor company specializing in mixed-signal chip design, recently concluded its second funding round, securing €34 million in global investment. The funds will be used to fuel the development of cutting-edge System-on-a-Chip (SoC) products and expand the company’s customer base.

With a cumulative funding of €44.5 million, SCALINX is well-positioned to solidify its unique European position in the design and supply of SoC solutions for high-tech industries like 5G and 6G networks, as well as autonomous vehicles. The company’s wideband, low-power data-conversion SCCORE™ (Smart Conversion CORE) technology has attracted interest from investors, including the French State, through its “French Tech Souveraineté” fund program managed by Bpifrance, Go Capital, and Thales.

The new funds will allow SCALINX to expand its business operations, with a particular focus on the Wireless Communication market and exploring new markets in the Automotive sector. Additionally, the company plans to undertake new projects in the Space & Defense and Test & Measurement industries. To accommodate its growth, SCALINX will double its headcount over the next 24 months and expand its office space.

Hussein Fakhoury, SCALINX Founder and CEO, expressed his excitement about the investment and the recognition of their SCCORE™ technology in the Wireless Infrastructure market. The company’s SoC product roadmap aims to enable telecom players to deliver ultra-high capacity, multi-gigabit links over longer distances, optimizing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for microwave, millimeter-wave, and multi-band equipment.

The investment in SCALINX is seen as a strategic move to support European sovereignty in key technology areas such as defense and space. Marion Aubry, Investment Director at Bpifrance, notes that SCALINX has a proven track record in defense, aerospace, test and measurement, and communications markets.

This investment round will undoubtedly accelerate the development of advanced chip designs in France, positioning the country as a leader in 5G networks and autonomous driving technology. With the support of investors and their expertise in mixed-signal products, SCALINX is poised for rapid growth in the coming years.
