South Korean Semiconductor Maker Simmtech Plans Another Colocation Investment with Micron

South Korean semiconductor parts manufacturer Simmtech is gearing up for another investment in colocation with Micron, according to the company’s Global CEO Jeffery Chun. Speaking at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, Chun expressed Simmtech’s readiness to make a significant investment in India, particularly in the state of Gujarat. The move is expected to create thousands of job opportunities for highly skilled workers in the region.

Chun highlighted the significance of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in establishing a new supply chain network in India, and emphasized Simmtech’s pride in contributing to the development of a self-reliant India supply chain. He also mentioned the company’s preparation for another round of colocation investment in India. With the support of the central and state governments, Simmtech aims to elevate India’s PCB and IC packaging substrate industry to a higher level, strengthening India’s position in the semiconductor supply chain network.

Micron had previously announced its plans to establish a semiconductor assembly and test plant in Gujarat, with an investment of USD 2.75 billion. Chun expressed his anticipation for further supporting customers’ supply chains in India and globally, as well as enabling India’s domestic players to become part of the global supply chain ecosystem.

As a supply chain partner in the semiconductor assembly and test industry, Simmtech specializes in providing top-quality semiconductor packaging IC substrates and high-density interconnect printed circuit boards to leading customers. The company has a history of making successful colocation investments, including its collaboration with Micron in China more than a decade ago and its recent investment in Malaysia. These investments have demonstrated the positive impact of colocation on the growth of the semiconductor ecosystem in various regions.

Simmtech’s future investment plans reflect the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in India and contributing to the growth of the semiconductor industry in the country.
