Mercedes-Benz Unveils Groundbreaking On-Board Operating System at CES 2024

Mercedes-Benz made headlines at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas when it showcased its revolutionary new on-board operating system. With the goal of enhancing the relationship between drivers, passengers, and vehicles, Mercedes-Benz designed the operating system with “hyper-personalization” in mind.

As the automotive industry moves closer to full electrification, there is a growing challenge for automakers to differentiate their electric vehicles from one another. While electric vehicles offer impressive performance and quiet running, it becomes difficult for consumers to discern the differences between brands.

To address this issue, Mercedes-Benz recognizes the potential of on-board operating systems and interface functions as selling features. The company’s new operating system, known as MB.OS, will be integrated into all new models built on the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture platform. The system will also be implemented to a lesser extent in future gas models.

At the core of MB.OS is the MBUX Virtual Assistant, which aims to transform the car-driver relationship through natural conversation and voice recognition. Powered by advanced 3D graphics, the virtual assistant features a “living” star avatar that expresses various moods and interactions. Four personality traits, including Natural, Predictive, Personal, and Empathetic, shape the assistant’s seamless interaction capabilities.

The MBUX Virtual Assistant goes beyond voice commands and incorporates visual elements to provide a hyper-personalized user experience. It offers proactive suggestions, routines, and personalized content based on situational context and learned behavior. Through generative AI, the assistant can express emotions using animations and emojis on the display screen.

Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS operating system represents a new era of connectivity and personalization in the automotive industry. By prioritizing user experience and integrating advanced technologies, the automaker is ensuring that its vehicles stand out from the competition in an increasingly electrified future.
