Intel Unveils New Raptor Lake Refresh Chips

Intel has announced its latest lineup of processors, the Raptor Lake Refresh chips. These new chips come in both 65W and 35W models, spanning from Core i3 up to Core i9, and are designed to compete with AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series. According to Intel, the higher-end models of the Raptor Lake Refresh chips offer up to 37% more multi-threaded performance compared to the previous generation.

The flagship model of the 65W lineup is the Core i9-14900, priced at $549, which features 24 cores and 32 threads. In the 35W lineup, the headliner is the Core i9-14900T, a lower-power variant of the same chip. The lineup also includes options ranging from the high-end Core i9 models to the more affordable dual-core quad-thread Intel Processor 300, priced at $82.

These Raptor Lake Refresh chips are a refresh version of the 13th-Gen Raptor Lake processors that were released in 2022. While they may not offer significant gen-on-gen improvements, Intel has optimized the chips to make them more attractive to consumers.

The new processors are compatible with Intel’s 600- and 700-series motherboards and support features like up to 192GB of DDR5-5600/DDR4-3200 memory and PCIe 5.0/4.0 lane allocations. Intel also includes a bundled Laminar RM1 cooler with all 65W and 35W processors.

Gamers may find the mid-range Core i5 processors most appealing, but it’s worth noting that the improvements in these models are relatively small. For example, the Core i5-14400 only has a marginal increase in clock speeds compared to its predecessor, so some enthusiasts may opt for the lower-priced Core i5-13400 instead.

Overall, the new Raptor Lake Refresh chips from Intel offer consumers a range of options and improved multi-threaded performance. While they may not provide major leaps in performance, these chips are a solid choice for those in need of a reliable and capable processor.
