AMD Introduces New Ryzen 8000 Desktop Processors with RDNA 3 GPUs and AI-NPU for the First Time

AMD has unveiled its latest lineup of desktop processors, the Ryzen 8000 series, which introduces integrated RDNA 3 GPUs and an AI-accelerating NPU to the desktop platform. While showcasing these cutting-edge processors, AMD also announced new budget options for its existing AM4 platform. The four new Ryzen 5000 processors cater to a range of needs, from budget office setups to cost-conscious gaming systems.

At the top end of the range is the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, an 8-core CPU with an extra 64MB of L3 cache stacked on top of the main CPU die. Priced at $249, it offers similar core count and cache size as the 5800X3D but with a slightly lower maximum clock speed of 4.1 GHz. AMD compared it favorably to the Core i5-13600K in gaming workloads. The Ryzen 7 5700 is an $175 8-core processor without 3D V-Cache, making it a reliable option for most workloads while offering a lower cache size. The Ryzen 5 5600GT and 5500GT are 6-core and 4-core chips respectively with Vega-based integrated graphics, aimed at lower-end systems.

While the introduction of the Ryzen 8000 series is exciting, it’s important to note that the AM4 platform is now aging. However, for those already using an AM4 motherboard with an older Ryzen processor, these new budget options can provide a cost-efficient upgrade. Upgrading to a Ryzen 5000 CPU can also help meet the system requirements for Windows 11. AMD continues to support the AM4 platform, providing more options to users with varying budgets and use cases.

The new Ryzen 5000 chips will be available for purchase starting January 31st, and unlike previous limitations, there will be no availability constraints on these processors. AMD does not currently have plans to discontinue other Ryzen 5000 CPUs that are still being sold. As technology progresses, there may naturally be a shift from older to newer SKUs over time.

With the release of the Ryzen 8000 series, AMD is once again pushing the boundaries of desktop processors, incorporating advanced technologies to enhance the gaming and computing experiences of users.
