AMD has announced the release of four new processors in its Ryzen 5000 series at CES 2024. The highlight of the lineup is the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, an eight-core, 16-thread processor equipped with 3D V-Cache technology. It features 96MB of L3 cache and slightly lower clock speeds compared to the popular Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
In addition to the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, AMD has introduced the Ryzen 7 5700, a more affordable version of the Ryzen 7 5700X, both without an integrated GPU. For users in need of basic display capabilities, AMD also unveiled two new six-core, 12-thread APU models, the Ryzen 5 5600GT and Ryzen 5 5500GT, which come with integrated Radeon graphics.
All four processors will be available for purchase from AMD’s SI partners and in custom systems starting from January 31, 2024.
Compared to previous models, the new Ryzen 5000 processors feature the Zen 3 microarchitecture and are manufactured on the TSMC 7nm process node. The ‘GT’ APUs in the lineup are based on the ‘Cezanne’ architecture and come with Vega graphics engines, although specific core counts and frequencies have not yet been released by AMD.
The Ryzen 7 5700X3D offers a good blend of gaming performance at its price point, while the Ryzen 7 5700 provides a higher base clock speed at a lower price than the Ryzen 7 5700X. The Ryzen 5 5500GT and Ryzen 5 5600GT outperform the Ryzen 5 5600G, making them attractive options for those looking to upgrade.
AMD’s AM4 platform has been supported since 2017, making it the longest-supported modern socket still receiving new processor additions. With a wide range of compatible motherboards and affordable DDR4 memory options, the Ryzen 5000 processors offer a compelling choice for upgraders and value-seekers. However, AMD faces tough competition from Intel’s lower-end options. Independent testing will be necessary to fully assess the performance of the new processors.
