Speaking at the 58th conference of DGPs and IGPs, Shah highlighted the importance of uniformity in structures, size, and skills of counter-terrorism mechanisms nationwide.
Shah acknowledged two significant decisions made by the Narendra Modi government—the implementation of the National Education Policy and the enactment of three criminal justice laws to replace archaic British-era statutes. He emphasized that these new laws prioritize justice delivery over punishment, subsequently transforming the country’s criminal justice system into a modern and scientific one.
The home minister stressed the significance of linking databases and adopting AI-driven analytical approaches to effectively tackle emerging security challenges. Moreover, he commended the overall improvement in the country’s security scenario since 2014, particularly noting the reduction in violence across critical regions such as Jammu and Kashmir, Northeast India, and areas affected by Left Wing Extremism.
Shah underscored the necessity of providing comprehensive training to police officers at all levels, from Station House Officer (SHO) to Director General of Police (DGP), along with technology upgrades from police stations to headquarters. These measures are essential for the successful implementation of the new criminal justice laws.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of India’s development by 2047, Shah emphasized the vital role of internal security. He recognized the conference as a prominent think tank that facilitates decision-making and the formulation of new security strategies.
The conference will delve into various critical security-related issues, including border security, cyber-threats, radicalization, fraudulent issuance of identity documents, and threats arising from artificial intelligence. The event witnessed the physical attendance of approximately 250 high-ranking officers, including Director Generals of Police (DGP) and Inspectors General of Police (IGP), while more than 200 others participated virtually.
During the conference, Shah honored the sacrifices made by security personnel who lost their lives while serving the nation. He also distributed police medals for meritorious service and awarded trophies to recognize the top-performing police stations.
