Russian Public’s Embrace of Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks

A recent survey has highlighted that a vast majority of Russians are aware of neural networks, with 73% acknowledging their familiarity with the technology. This insight stems from an inquiry conducted among readers of a popular Russian tech news platform.

Although AI’s potential to supersede humans in certain tasks has been a subject of discussion, about half of the participants (49%) trust that AI can replace humans in performing mundane tasks. Meanwhile, 26% of the respondents foresee AI’s ubiquitous adoption, replacing human labor in various sectors. Despite these figures, a cautious 25% do not anticipate AI’s takeover in any industry.

The curiosity about AI and neural networks is evident, with 27% of those surveyed expressing a desire to experiment with these technologies shortly. Already, 16% have engaged AI for image generation, and 8% have employed chatbots for text generation, with another 15% having tested both applications of neural networks. However, a significant 34% refrain from testing and express no interest in neural networks.

The overall sentiment towards neural networks among Russians is quite optimistic, although 21% maintain a skeptical stance, suggesting that other technologies merit development. Conversely, 30% are confident in the industry’s future, and 49% view neural networks as a natural progression of technological advancement.

When considering the sectors most likely to benefit from AI and neural networks, respondents identified medicine (32%) and industry (25%) as top areas. Additional fields where AI could be advantageous include public service, education and research, creative industries, and artistic creation.

Despite the promise shown by AI and neural network technologies, there remains 8% of respondents who believe AI will not be useful in the outlined sectors.

This survey was hosted on the website of Hi-Tech Mail.ru from May 30 to June 3, 2024, and featured the participation of 4,000 respondents.
