GlobalFoundries Receives Funding for Chip Manufacturing Expansion

Lastly, GF will modernize its longest continuously operated fab in Essex Junction, Vermont. The upgrade will enhance the facility’s capacity and enable high-volume manufacturing of next-generation gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors. These advanced semiconductors are crucial for applications such as electric vehicles, power grids, data centers, and 5G and 6G smartphones.

GF has plans to invest over $12 billion in its U.S. sites over the next decade, with support from federal and state governments as well as ecosystem partners. These investments, including the funding from the Department of Commerce and the state of New York, will create over 1,500 manufacturing jobs and approximately 9,000 construction jobs.
