OpenAI’s policy, however, explicitly prohibits the use of GPTs for the purpose of promoting romantic companionship or engaging in regulated activities. The policy emphasizes strict enforcement and reserves the right to retroactively apply sanctions upon further review.
In contradiction to these restrictions, relationship chatbots have gained significant popularity. Data reveals that a substantial number of downloaded AI chatbot apps in 2023 were centered around AI friends, girlfriends, or companions. Astonishingly, some users have even reported developing emotional attachments or falling in love with their AI companions.
Since the launch of the GPT Builder program in November, users have created over 3 million GPTs, indicating the growing demand for AI models. Access to the GPT Store is exclusively available to subscribers of OpenAI’s premium ChatGPT plans, including ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Enterprise, and the recently introduced ChatGPT Team.
