NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 GPUs Gain Traction in Korean DIY Market

NVIDIA’s latest lineup of graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 40 series, is making waves in the South Korean DIY market. The 4060 series, in particular, has started outselling the previously popular 3060 series, thanks to price drops and flash deals offered by NVIDIA and its partners.

Initially, the GeForce RTX 4060 series received mixed reviews, as they offered minimal improvements over their 3060 predecessors without being significantly more affordable. However, in recent months, NVIDIA and its partners have introduced discounts and cuts across the entire RTX 40 lineup, changing the perception of the DIY market in South Korea.

According to a report by Danawa Research, the consumer response to the GeForce RTX 4060 GPUs has been overwhelmingly positive, with these cards accounting for over 40% of the total sales. The most sought-after GPU in the series is the RTX 4060 Ti, with a sales share of 23.59%, closely followed by the RTX 4060 at 22.17%. In comparison, the sales volumes of the previous leaders, the RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti, have declined significantly, now standing at 11.85% and 2.18% respectively.

Other popular choices in the market include the RTX 4070 Ti, RTX 4070, and GTX 1660, all of which are selling close to the 10% mark in terms of sales volume. The report does not mention the sales numbers for the premium models, RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, as their peak sales were expected in the initial months of their launch.

The main reason for the surge in popularity for the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 GPUs can be attributed to their competitive pricing, which now rivals that of the 3060 series. Additionally, the availability of the older RTX 30 GPUs is dwindling as their production nears its end. To cater to entry-level consumers, NVIDIA is also introducing the RTX 3050 6 GB, priced below $200 in the US.

In terms of preferred variants, the ZOTAC Gaming Twin Edge, Palit Storm X Dual, and MSI Ventus 2X are the top choices among gamers. These dual-slot designs with compact form factors are ideal for budget builds. The remaining 34.89% of the sales volume comprises cards from other vendors.

While the success of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 GPUs is commendable, it would be interesting to see the performance of AMD’s Radeon and Intel Arc GPUs in the Korean DIY segment.
