Philippine Blockchain Week Sparks Collaborations and Showcases Blockchain Potential

Collaborations and partnerships in the Bitcoin and blockchain space are gaining traction, with the recent Philippine Blockchain Week (PBW) serving as a platform for various stakeholders to come together. The second edition of PBW, organized by the Blockchain Council of the Philippines (BCP), saw the active involvement of state-backed agencies, setting a benchmark for government participation in blockchain events.

BCP President Donald Lim expressed his pride in the involvement of government agencies, stating that the PBW has awakened the entire ecosystem. The event also attracted international stakeholders, including blockchain federations from South Korea and Japan, highlighting the growing potential of the Philippines as a blockchain hub in Asia.

Looking ahead, Lim predicts that 2024 will be a year of significant progress in the blockchain space, with the efforts of entities and individuals during the “blockchain winter” paying off. While the Philippines is establishing itself as a blockchain hotbed, BCP Co-founder Chezka Gonzales acknowledged that it will take time before Filipinos fully embrace the emerging technology.

To drive blockchain adoption, the PBW organized a metaverse fashion gala in collaboration with renowned designer Michael Cinco. As part of this unique event, Cinco sold his designs as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), generating interest across various demographics. Additionally, PBW partnered with leading gaming companies to introduce emerging technologies to the youth through the Nexus Fan Fair event.

Beyond promoting talent and driving blockchain adoption, the PBW also emphasized blockchain utility. Hyped Collective co-founder Tara Kwon highlighted how her company, Kalder, leverages blockchain technology to enhance brand and consumer engagement. Kwon believes that shifting to Web3 technology will enable communities to benefit from the transformative capabilities of emerging technologies.

The success of the PBW 2023 showcased the Philippines as an ideal country for investment and piloting new blockchain projects. The event demonstrated the potential of blockchain to improve brand-consumer interactions and engage a wider audience.
