Micron Technology and NAMTECH Collaborate to Foster India’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry

Micron Technology and NAMTECH have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive the growth of India’s semiconductor manufacturing sector. By joining forces, the two organizations aim to develop a talent pipeline that will support India’s goal of quadrupling its semiconductor industry’s capitalization to USD 110 billion by 2030.

Under this collaboration, Micron and NAMTECH will focus on providing hands-on educational and training initiatives to nurture a skilled and globally competitive workforce. The partnership aligns with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), which strives to bolster capacity development in the industry. The ISM aims to establish India as a self-reliant semiconductor assembly and test ecosystem and position the country as a leading global hub for electronics manufacturing and design.

“We are shaping the future of semiconductor education and manufacturing in India, while sculpting a global narrative of innovation and technological prowess. This partnership propels our nation towards a self-sufficient and pioneering role in the semiconductor landscape,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics, and IT.

Micron, with its expertise in manufacturing operations and leadership development, will play a crucial role in supporting NAMTECH. This will involve establishing industry-grade semiconductor assembly and test laboratories, clean rooms, and other vital infrastructure components. The objective is to create an incubation hub that provides students with practical learning experiences using state-of-the-art equipment.

Gursharan Singh, Micron’s Senior Vice President of Global Assembly and Test Operations, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “This synergistic collaboration with NAMTECH is an opportunity to build the talent and skills essential to the semiconductor assembly and test industry.”

To enhance the academic resources essential for fostering a diverse talent pool, Micron and NAMTECH will develop tailored hands-on learning experiences, curriculum, and faculty training. The partnership also aims to facilitate internships, job opportunities, and educational visits to industrial zones, fostering connections between students and industry experts.

This collaboration between Micron Technology and NAMTECH is expected to contribute to India’s technological ascendancy on the global stage. It will also create employment opportunities, with Micron’s upcoming assembly and test facility in Sanand, Gujarat, estimated to generate around 5,000 direct jobs within the company and an additional 15,000 community jobs in the near future.
