Intel Releases Exclusive CPU Variants for China Only

Intel has quietly introduced two new CPU variants within its Raptor Lake Fresh desktop CPU family. However, these processors are intended solely for the Chinese market. One of the CPUs is the Core i7-14790F, which is the second variant in the series, following the release of the Core i7-14700F a few days ago. Interestingly, the Core i7-14790F has a unique configuration compared to its counterpart, with fewer cores but more cache.

The Core i7-14790F is a 16-core processor with 8 performance cores, 8 efficient cores, and 24 threads. Although it shares the same frequency and power consumption as the Core i7-14700F, it features a lower cache, thread, and core count.

These exclusive CPUs, also known as ‘Black Editions,’ come in packaging that differs from the standard blue-colored Intel boxes. The black color signifies their exclusivity for the Chinese market. Intel has previously released Black Edition variants for its 12th and 13th generation CPUs.

These CPUs do not have on-chip graphics like the K series and are rated with PCG 2020C thermal profile. While they are not mentioned in the compatibility list for Z series chipsets, some H series motherboards by Asus and Intel Z790 and Intel B760M motherboards by Gigabyte are compatible with these exclusive variants.

Pricing for the Core i7-14790F in China is approximately $409.30, which is slightly lower than the Core i7-14700F. However, apart from their exclusivity, these CPUs do not offer any significant enhancements compared to the globally available Raptor Lake Core i7 processors.
