Indian datacenter operators are turning to Nvidia GPUs to enhance their artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Yotta, a leading Indian bit-barn business, has recently announced plans to deploy 32,000 Nvidia H100 and H200 GPUs by 2025, with an estimated deal value of $1 billion. The GPUs will be utilized to power an AI-focused datacenter in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, which is expected to open in March. Yotta CEO Sunil Gupta believes that the future of AI in India relies on the availability of top-quality infrastructure, particularly Nvidia accelerators.
Yotta isn’t alone in this endeavor. Nvidia has also partnered with Indian conglomerates Reliance Industries and Tata Group to expand the availability of AI services in the country. Reliance Industries aims to deploy a large volume of Nvidia accelerators to train language models for India’s various languages and dialects. On the other hand, Tata Group is collaborating with Nvidia to develop an AI supercomputer using Nvidia’s GH200, which will support a range of new cloud services.
The rising adoption of machine learning and AI in India is driving the demand for high-performance GPUs. Indian businesses understand that the success of AI implementation is contingent upon access to advanced accelerators, and Nvidia’s GPUs fit the bill. This trend is significant as Nvidia faces restrictions on selling its top-tier datacenter GPUs in China due to US export regulations introduced in October.
Although Nvidia has developed export-compliant accelerators that stay within the set limits imposed by the Biden administration, Chinese buyers have shown little interest in these scaled-back chips. Nonetheless, Nvidia remains optimistic about the global demand for AI accelerators and anticipates that any potential losses from the restrictions in China will be offset by strong demand worldwide.
As India embraces Nvidia GPUs to bolster its AI capabilities, the country positions itself as a key player in the AI landscape. With significant investments in infrastructure and the support of leading Indian firms, India is poised to accelerate its AI adoption and drive innovation across various sectors.
