Mahindra Discontinues AI-Generated Influencer Project

Mahindra Racing’s ambitious project to create an AI-generated influencer named Ava has come to an abrupt end. The team had aimed to use Ava to showcase their journey in the Formula E World Championship and promote sustainable practices. However, the decision faced severe backlash from fans and media, causing Mahindra Racing to abandon the initiative.

Critics argued that instead of using artificial intelligence to create an ambassador, the team should have hired a real-life person for the role. Devin Altieri, a PR consultant in motorsport, expressed his disappointment in a social media post, stating that it was “incredibly messed up” for Mahindra Racing to choose AI over a human ambassador.

Another concern raised was the environmental impact of using AI technology. Automotive journalist Alanis King questioned the sustainability of an initiative that relied heavily on energy-consuming AI algorithms. She found it ironic to call Ava a “Sustainable Tech Champ” when AI technology itself was known for its excessive energy use.

Responding to the criticism, Mahindra Racing’s CEO and team principal, Frederic Bertrand, emphasized the organization’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and innovation. However, he acknowledged the value of the feedback received and made the decision to discontinue the AI influencer program. Bertrand assured the public that the team had listened and understood the concerns expressed.

While the AI ambassador project may not have succeeded, Mahindra Racing remains dedicated to promoting sustainability and technological advancements in the world of motorsports. The team is committed to exploring innovative approaches that align with their core values while ensuring a positive and inclusive experience for fans and supporters.
