Micron Technologies to Build Semiconductor Facility in Gujarat, Aiding India’s Economic Growth

Micron Technologies, a global leader in memory chips, has announced its plans to construct a cutting-edge semiconductor facility in Gujarat. The facility, scheduled to commence operations by early 2025, is expected to bolster India’s semiconductor industry and create up to 20,000 job opportunities.

During the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra highlighted the immense potential for India in the semiconductor sector, emphasizing Micron’s legacy as an innovator in memory chips. The ambitious project, undertaken in collaboration with Tata, is already undergoing phased construction.

In addition to providing state-of-the-art infrastructure, Micron is committed to job creation. The company aims to generate 5,000 direct jobs and a remarkable 15,000 indirect jobs, which will significantly contribute to the local economy.

With a total investment estimated at $2.75 billion, Micron’s semiconductor unit represents one of the largest investments in India’s semiconductor sector. The endeavor aligns with the objectives of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), with Micron contributing $825 million, while the remaining funds come from government subsidies at the state and central levels.

Micron, a US chipmaking giant known for its expertise in memory, storage, and semiconductor technologies, caters to various industries such as AI, automotive, mobile, data center, and client applications.
