Majority of Enterprise-Scale Companies Accelerating AI Investments

New research conducted by IBM reveals that a significant number of enterprise-scale organizations are actively deploying or exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their businesses. The study found that 42% of companies with over 1,000 employees have already deployed AI, while an additional 40% are currently exploring or experimenting with AI models.

Of the companies surveyed that are actively exploring or deploying AI, 59% reported that they have accelerated their rollout or investments in the technology. This demonstrates that early adopters who have overcome barriers are experiencing the benefits of AI and are eager to further invest in its implementation.

According to Rob Thomas, Senior Vice President of IBM Software, the expansion of AI at the enterprise level is being driven by factors such as more accessible AI tools, the automation of key processes, and the increasing integration of AI into off-the-shelf business applications. He also expressed confidence that the barriers to entry, such as the skills gap and data complexity, will be tackled and overcome in the coming years.

The research also revealed key trends in AI adoption among enterprise-scale organizations. It found that companies in India, the UAE, Singapore, and China are leading the way in active AI use, while markets like Spain, Australia, and France lag behind. The financial services industry was found to be the most likely to use AI, with approximately half of IT professionals in that industry reporting active AI deployment.

Furthermore, the study highlighted the impact of AI on the workforce. Some organizations reported a lack of employees with the necessary skills to utilize AI tools, while others were utilizing AI to address skills shortages and automate tasks.

While AI adoption is growing, the research emphasizes the need for organizations to prioritize trustworthy and governed AI practices. Many companies are aware of the importance of transparent and ethical AI practices, but face barriers in implementing them, such as reducing bias and tracking data provenance.
