OpenAI Launches GPT Store, Offering Customized Chatbots

OpenAI has unveiled its new GPT Store, allowing a select group of users and official partners to share their customized chatbots with the community. This exclusive platform is limited to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, or the Teams plan. Subscribers gain access to a wide range of GPTs across various categories, including writing, programming, art generation, and even lifestyle advice. For instance, there is a chatbot that can assist users in refining tattoo designs.

Originally announced in November 2021, the launch of the GPT Store was delayed multiple times following the reshuffling of OpenAI’s leadership. However, the store is now live, showcasing a curated collection of GPTs. Currently, AllTrails, Consensus, Code Tutor, and Books are featured as recommended chatbots. AllTrails suggests nature trails to explore, Consensus has access to millions of academic papers for scientific inquiries, Code Tutor offers coding suggestions, and Books provides book recommendations.

In addition to the highlighted chatbots, the GPT Store also presents trending chatbots within the community and those developed by OpenAI’s internal team. OpenAI has plans to introduce a revenue program, enabling creators to monetize their chatbot creations. While specific details are yet to be disclosed, the revenue program is expected to launch in Q1 2024 in the United States.

OpenAI emphasizes that anyone with a subscription can create their own GPT, even without coding skills. However, creators must follow usage policies and brand guidelines set by OpenAI to ensure ethical and responsible use of the platform. These guidelines inclue respecting privacy, avoiding content that may harm others, and refraining from spreading misinformation. OpenAI also encourages users to report any violations encountered on the GPT Store.

Creators can share their chatbots on the storefront by saving their GPT and selecting the option to make it accessible to everyone. Verification of the Builder Profile in the Settings menu is required for publication. OpenAI aims to maintain a clean and safe environment within the GPT Store.
