Quantum Delta NL and NWO Support Cutting-Edge Quantum Research

Quantum Delta NL and NWO, leading organizations in the field of quantum technology, have recently awarded funding to nineteen innovative research projects. With a total investment of 42 million euros over a seven-year period, the aim is to advance scientific and technological breakthroughs in the quantum field.

One of the awarded projects, titled “High-Speed Quantum Key Distribution Transmitter with all-integrated Indium Phosphide Photonics,” focuses on developing a high-speed quantum key distribution system utilizing advanced photonics technology. This breakthrough innovation has the potential to revolutionize encryption methods and enhance the security of digital communication.

Another project, titled “A spin-photon interface in silicon for scalable quantum information technologies,” aims to create a scalable quantum information processing platform using a spin-photon interface in silicon. This technology could pave the way for more efficient and powerful quantum computers, contributing to advancements in various fields such as drug discovery, optimization problems, and cryptography.

In addition to these exceptional research projects, the funding also supports young researchers. PhD researchers have the opportunity to apply for personal research budgets, reinforcing the Netherlands’ leading position in quantum research. Among the nineteen awarded projects, two are from young researchers, highlighting the importance of cultivating new talent in the quantum field.

While these developments are promising, there is still room for improvement in terms of gender diversity. Out of the awarded projects, only four are led by women. Quantum Delta NL and NWO acknowledge the need for a better gender balance and are determined to allocate resources to achieve this goal.
