NVIDIA Driving the Future of Electric Vehicles with Automotive Partnerships

NVIDIA is solidifying its position as a top technology leader in the autonomous driving and electric vehicle (EV) sectors with a slew of partnerships and announcements at CES 2024. One of the key highlights is their collaboration with Li Auto, the hottest EV startup in China. Li Auto has selected NVIDIA’s advanced central computer, the NVIDIA DRIVE Thor, for its future EV models, making it one of the top 20 EVs in China.

NVIDIA’s DRIVE platform has been a popular choice among automakers for its high-performance computing needs in EVs and semi-autonomous driving technology. The powerful DRIVE Orin processor has been utilized by companies like Volvo Cars, XPeng, Xiaomi, Zeekr, and Great Wall Motor (GWM). GWM, in particular, plans to build its own intelligent driving system, the Coffee Pilot, based on NVIDIA’s DRIVE Orin platform.

The DRIVE Thor, NVIDIA’s next-generation centralized car computer, offers a wide range of intelligent functions integrated into a single AI compute platform. It enables autonomous driving, parking capabilities, driver and passenger monitoring, and AI cockpit functionality. Despite the introduction of DRIVE Thor, some future vehicles and projects still rely on the tried-and-tested DRIVE Orin.

In addition to Li Auto, NVIDIA has also announced partnerships with other key players in the automotive industry. They are working with Mercedes-Benz to integrate the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin in the Concept CLA Class for automated driving. Luminar, Ansys, Cerence, Cipia, Kodiak, Lenovo, Pebble, Polestar, and Zoox are also collaborating with NVIDIA on various projects showcased at CES 2024.

The automotive arm of tech giant Xiaomi has unveiled its first EV, the SU7 sedan, built on a dual DRIVE Orin configuration, showcasing NVIDIA’s tech leadership. This sedan boasts an impressive driving range of up to 497 miles and will be officially launched in the first half of 2024.

With these partnerships and ongoing collaborations, NVIDIA continues to demonstrate its commitment to revolutionizing the transportation industry with advanced AI technology. The company’s cutting-edge solutions are driving the future of electric vehicles and shaping the landscape of autonomous driving.
