Intel Unveils Refreshed 14th Gen Mobile and Desktop Processors

Intel has announced its latest lineup of 14th Gen mobile and desktop processors, including the powerful HX-series mobile processors designed for gaming laptops in 2024. These new processors, which are a refresh of the Raptor Lake 13th Gen mobile versions, offer significant improvements in terms of performance and capabilities.

The flagship model, the Intel Core i9-14900HX, is specifically designed for demanding gaming laptops and features an impressive 24 cores, including eight performance cores and 16 efficiency cores. With a turbo frequency of up to 5.8GHz, this processor ensures smooth and fast gameplay. It also supports up to 192GB of DDR5-5600 memory, along with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Thunderbolt 5 support.

The Core i7 variant has also received an upgrade in terms of core count. The Core i7-14700HX now comes with a total of 20 cores, including eight performance cores and 12 efficiency cores. This increase in efficiency cores enhances the performance of multithreaded applications and games, providing an improved user experience.

In comparisons with AMD’s Ryzen 9 7945HX, Intel’s latest Core i9-14900HX outperforms it in most tests, except for a few demanding games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Cyberpunk 2077, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Although Intel hasn’t compared its 14th Gen processors to its previous 13th Gen lineup, early reviews of the desktop versions have shown that they offer similar performance without surpassing AMD’s top gaming CPUs.

Alongside the mobile processors, Intel has also introduced its mainstream 14th Gen desktop CPUs. These processors are available in 18 different models, including the flagship Core i9-14900, which offers 24 cores and a base power of 65 watts. The Core i7-14700 follows closely behind with 20 cores. All the top-tier models support up to DDR5-5600 memory and 192GB capacity while remaining backward-compatible with Intel 600- and 700-series motherboards.

Overall, Intel’s new lineup of 14th Gen mobile and desktop processors brings significant improvements in performance, core count, and memory support. While performance in comparison to AMD’s offerings remains to be seen, these processors are promising options for gamers and power users alike.
