Intel Unveils New Generation of Mobile Processors at CES 2024

Intel recently announced its latest lineup of mobile processors, the 14th Generation Raptor Lake Refresh HX-series, at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. Designed to cater to gamers, enthusiasts, and professionals seeking high-performance computing on the go, these new chips offer improved performance and enhanced features.

While the Raptor Lake Refresh HX-series follows a similar design as its predecessor, it incorporates a hybrid architecture with both performant Raptor Cove P-cores and weaker Gracemont E-cores. The new processors, led by the Core i9-14900HX, boast 24 cores and 32 threads, making them a powerhouse for demanding tasks.

Intel has made significant improvements to the Core i7 models in terms of core count and clock speeds. The Core i7-14700HX now features 20 cores, thanks to the addition of four more E-cores, and offers higher boost clock speeds compared to its predecessor. Moreover, there is also an increase in L3 cache, enabling better performance.

The Core i7-14650HX, on the other hand, received two additional P-cores instead of E-cores, resulting in a total of 16 cores. Although this chip did not receive a substantial speed increase, it still provides a notable improvement over its predecessor.

The Core i5 models in the lineup, including the Core i5-14500HX and Core i5-14450HX, saw modest improvements in terms of clock speeds but maintained similar performance capabilities as their previous generation counterparts.

Intel showcased some benchmark results, claiming that the Core i9-14900HX outperformed AMD’s Ryzen 9 processors in 1080p gaming and multitasking performance. However, it is essential to approach vendor-provided benchmarks with caution.

The new Raptor Lake Refresh HX-series processors support the latest connectivity standards, including Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, and incorporate Intel technologies such as APO (Application Optimization), XTU (Extreme Tuning Utility), and Speed Optimizer for enhanced gaming experiences. Memory support remains the same, with DDR5-5600 and DDR4-3200 options and a maximum capacity of 192GB.

Intel expects over 60 laptop designs featuring the 14th Generation Raptor Lake Refresh HX-series processors to be launched this year, offering users a wide range of options for powerful mobile computing.
