Intel has recently announced its latest lineup of desktop CPUs, known as the 14th Gen Mainstream Desktop Processors or Raptor Lake Refresh. With a total of 18 new SKUs, this release promises improved performance, particularly in multi-threaded tasks, with up to 37 percent higher performance compared to the previous generation.
The new CPUs range from the entry-level 2-core/4-thread Intel Processor 300 to the high-end 24-core/32-thread Core i9-14900. While these processors are a refresh of the 13th gen Raptor Lake CPUs launched in 2022, Intel has optimized them to deliver certain enhancements. They are compatible with both Intel 600- and 700-series motherboards and can support up to 192GB of DDR5-5600/DDR4-3200 memory. The CPUs also come with a mostly 65W TDP and a peak max turbo power of up to 219W.
In addition to the standard SKUs, Intel has also released four F-series SKUs without integrated graphics and a full lineup of T-series low-power versions with a 35W TDP.
Among the new processors, the Core i9-14900 and the mid-range Core i5 lineup, including the Core i5-14400, stand out as particularly noteworthy. Although there is only a slight boost in clock speeds compared to the previous generation, the overall performance of the 13th gen lineup is still impressive, making the new CPUs even more desirable.
While Intel claims marginal performance improvements, it remains to be seen how these processors will fare in independent benchmarks. However, consumers can expect the entire lineup to be available for purchase starting today.
