KittyCAD Launches Zoo Ecosystem for Modern Hardware Design Tools

KittyCAD, a leading software and API developer for hardware design, is excited to announce the launch of its innovative Zoo ecosystem. The Zoo ecosystem aims to provide a platform for developers, designers, and engineers to create, customize, and utilize modern hardware design tools. With the Zoo ecosystem, users will also have access to a range of pre-built tools to support their design projects.

The co-founder and executive chairman of Zoo, Jordan Noone, shared the company’s vision for the Zoo ecosystem. He emphasized their goal of creating APIs that allow anyone to build modern hardware design tools. Noone also revealed that their product roadmap has expanded to include the development of specific tools on top of their own API.

One of the notable tools within the Zoo ecosystem is the Text-to-CAD modeller. Unlike other text-to-3D modelling examples, this modeller generates B-Rep surfaces, which can be easily imported and edited in any existing CAD software as a STEP file. This feature sets it apart from other models that generate meshes, which are difficult to manipulate once imported.

Jessie Frazelle, the co-founder and CEO of Zoo, explained the unique challenges of generating CAD models compared to images or videos. She highlighted the multiple valid feature trees for each CAD model, which makes training and validation more complex. Frazelle also revealed that Zoo’s future plans include providing users with the generated KCL (KittyCAD Language) code, allowing for further editing and customization.

Additionally, Zoo recently introduced ML-ephant, a groundbreaking integration of machine learning and hardware design. ML-ephant enables designers to generate CAD models efficiently through text prompts, streamlining the design process. The machine learning capabilities of ML-ephant are powered by Zoo’s proprietary data sets and the KittyCAD Design API, which utilizes Zoo’s custom GPU-native Geometry Engine.

The Zoo ecosystem, with its powerful Geometry Engine, offers computation for geometry processing and visualization rendering. This allows developers to build tools that are compatible with various devices and operating systems.

KittyCAD’s Zoo ecosystem, with its range of tools and machine learning capabilities, is set to revolutionize the world of hardware design. Developers and designers can now access a comprehensive platform that not only empowers them to create and customize tools but also accelerates their design workflow.
