A photographer and graphics designer named Milie, also known as Princess Prompt online, recently showcased a set of mindblowing AI-generated images of The Simpsons characters. Using cutting-edge text-to-image technology, Milie utilized artificial intelligence tools like Midjourney v6 and an upscaler to create AI versions of beloved characters such as Marge Simpson, Bart Simpson, and Moe Szyslak.
Milie decided to embark on this project to test the latest features of Midjourney and also because she is a fan of The Simpsons. The characters’ distinct looks and iconic accessories served as an excellent starting point for her experiment. However, instead of keeping the yellow skin tone synonymous with the animated series, Milie aimed to give the characters a more human appearance, allowing viewers to relate to them as everyday people.
The process involved selecting a screenshot of each character and describing it to Midjourney using precise details. Milie defined the overall aesthetic for all the characters and then modified specific features for each one. To add further detail, such as skin texture, hair, and wrinkles, she utilized Magnific.ai, another AI tool.
During the week-long process, Milie generated the AI images mainly at night, purely for the pleasure of seeing the results. Some characters were easier to create than others, with the most challenging aspect being the choice of final images from the plethora of options generated by the AI tool.
The AI-generated images received a significant response on Facebook, accumulating nearly 100,000 reactions. Milie believes this reaction stems from people’s curiosity, disbelief, and attachment to The Simpsons as a beloved animated series.
Milie, who has been practicing artistic photography for almost two decades, has always been drawn to new tools and forms of creation. The emergence of generative artificial intelligence fascinated her, as it opened up new possibilities for artistic expression. Among the different AI tools she has experimented with, Midjourney remains her favorite due to its ability to produce highly detailed and precise images.
