NVIDIA Announces Mid-Cycle Refresh for RTX 40 Series with New Super Variants

NVIDIA has recently unveiled a mid-cycle refresh for its RTX 40 series, introducing three new offerings: the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super, and GeForce RTX 4070 Super. These new variants provide incremental performance gains compared to the standard models.

One notable change with this update is the retirement of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti, making the Super versions the only available options moving forward. Interestingly, the RTX 4080 Super comes in at a lower price point of $999, which is $200 less than the original standard model launched 15 months ago. Despite the price reduction, the 4080 Super maintains the AD103 silicon with 16GB of GDDR6X memory, while offering more shader cores, resulting in a better overall value.

In terms of specifications, the hardware remains identical to the standard models, including a 320W TDP, AV1 encode, DLSS 3.5, and 52 TFLOPS of shader performance, 4 TFLOPS more than the regular version. The design of the cards also remains unchanged, both for the Founders Edition and other AIB cards.

The RTX 4080 Super will be available for purchase starting January 31, while the 4070 Ti Super, priced at $799, will be released on January 24, featuring a wider 256-bit memory bus and an increased 16GB of GDDR6X memory. Additionally, the 4070 Super, which has the AD104 GPU, 7,168 cores (a 20% increase from the regular model), and 12GB of GDDR6X memory, will hit store shelves on January 17 for $599.

As with previous models, the new variants will be offered by various manufacturers such as ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, GALAX, GIGABYTE, INNO3D, KFA2, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac. While the retirement of standard models eliminates the potential for discounts, the introduction of these Super variants provides users with improved options for enhanced gaming experiences.
