New AI Platform Enables Users to Create Custom Stock Photos from Text Prompts

In an exciting development, Getty Images and Nvidia have announced the launch of a groundbreaking AI platform called Generative AI by iStock. This innovative tool leverages the power of artificial intelligence to enable users to create their own stock photos based on simple text prompts.
Generative AI by iStock is a text-to-image platform that is specifically designed for individual or single-seat users. Unlike Getty Images, which caters more to multiuser enterprise solutions, this platform is aimed at small and medium businesses that frequently rely on stock photos.
Powered by Nvidia’s Picasso model, Generative AI by iStock has been trained using Getty’s creative library and iStock’s vast collection of stock photos. It intentionally did not train on Getty’s editorial image library to avoid generating images with trademarks or recognizable personalities. This ensures that users have complete control over the content being generated.
According to Grant Farhall, Getty’s chief product officer, the platform’s goal is to enhance user workflow efficiency and provide them with precisely tailored images. He explained that using the example of climate change, instead of hiring a photographer and arranging a photoshoot with penguins, users can simply prompt the AI to create an image of penguins walking through a city street.
Generative AI by iStock offers flexibility in pricing, with users being able to purchase 100 prompts for $14.99. Each prompt generates four images, allowing for a range of options to choose from. Additionally, the platform introduces two new features – Inpainting and Outpainting. Inpainting enables users to mask an area of an image and replace it with a person or object based on a text prompt. Outpainting expands images to different aspect ratios and successfully fills in the new regions.
It is important to note that while Generative AI by Getty Images offers unlimited indemnification, iStock’s platform imposes a cap of $10,000 per asset, aligning with its current licensing agreements.
With this new AI platform, users can now harness the power of AI to create customized stock photos that precisely meet their needs. It opens up new possibilities for businesses and individuals, providing them with a cost-effective and efficient solution for their visual content requirements.
