Employers around the world are recognizing the need to align their workplace strategies with the expectations of Generation Z employees. In terms of skills sought by employers, there has been a shift from Generative AI skills and programming languages to cybersecurity and data science and analytics. Furthermore, employers are recognizing the preferences of Gen Z employees, who prioritize flexible work arrangements (38%), purpose-driven work (23%), and technology-driven environments (18%). In response, employers are prioritizing offerings such as flexible work arrangements, technology-driven environments, and professional development opportunities. However, there is a need to focus on purpose-driven work to fully meet the expectations of Gen Z.

Employers are also committed to embracing diversity and inclusion in their workplaces. Strong intentions to adopt robust diversity and inclusion policies (47%) are evident, with open communication channels, diverse leadership representation, and anti-discrimination reporting being the top strategies to be implemented. These initiatives aim to create more inclusive and equal work environments.

As we head into 2024, employers are evolving their workplace strategies to align with the expectations of Generation Z. By incorporating AI technology ethically, fostering collaboration between humans and AI, and prioritizing diversity, inclusion, and purpose-driven work, employers are likely to attract and retain top talent while keeping pace with the changing demands of the workforce.
