AMD made a splash at this year’s CES by introducing its latest lineup of desktop processors and graphics cards. The highlight of the announcement was the introduction of the Ryzen 8000G-series processors, which feature integrated neural processing units (NPUs) and refreshed 5000-series CPUs. The Ryzen 8000G-series processors are based on AMD’s Zen 4 core architecture and come with integrated GPUs. AMD claims that these APUs are capable of delivering 60-plus FPS gaming in AAA titles, as long as the graphics settings are turned down and its upscaling and frame-generation tech are enabled.
In addition to the integrated GPUs, the Ryzen 8000G-series processors are the first desktop processors from AMD to feature XDNA-based AI engines. These NPUs are designed to offload and accelerate machine-learning tasks, such as background blurring and video upscaling, from the CPU and/or GPU.
AMD also introduced the RX 7600 XT graphics card with 16GB of GDDR6 memory. The upgraded memory capacity will be beneficial for running generative AI workloads or using larger parameter versions of models. The card offers higher clocks and a larger frame buffer, which should result in improved performance for gaming.
