AMD Unveils Next-Generation Ryzen CPUs and Radeon Graphics Chip

AMD recently launched its highly anticipated Ryzen 8000-series mobile CPUs, with a focus on more affordable options. However, at CES, the company made some exciting announcements in the form of new desktop CPUs and a graphics chip. The Radeon RX 7600 XT is a step up from the entry-level graphics card and starts at around $329.

The new Radeon RX 7600 XT offers improved performance with more memory (16GB compared to 8GB) and higher frequencies. This upgrade comes at the cost of increased power requirements, as the XT version is larger and requires two 8-pin power connections. While it may not elevate your gaming experience to a higher resolution, it does provide more headroom for tasks like video editing, viewing large 3D models, and generative AI calculations.

It’s worth noting that AMD will not be selling its own card with the Radeon RX 7600 XT GPU. Instead, it will be available from partners like Acer, PowerColor, Sapphire, and XFX, with an expected shipping date of January 24th.

In addition to the graphics chip, AMD also announced new Ryzen CPUs. These CPUs are aimed at desktops and offer lower power consumption. The 8000 series features improved integrated graphics and enhanced AI processing capabilities. However, to use the 8000 series CPUs, users will need to have the newest AM5 socket, which may not be suitable for those on a tight budget or with older motherboards. To cater to these users, AMD has also expanded its 5000 series CPUs that are compatible with the older AM4 socket.

Furthermore, AMD has made changes to its AMD Advantage badging program. The program is being split into two tiers, with AMD Advantage Premium denoting systems that maximize all AMD components and features, and the generic AMD Advantage representing systems that meet AMD’s standards but without the rigorous co-development. This change opens up marketing opportunities for custom builders and more prebuilt systems and laptops.

Overall, these new announcements from AMD showcase the company’s commitment to providing high-performance and affordable options for both gaming and general-purpose desktops.
