AMD Ryzen 5 8500G “Hawk Point” APU Shows Significant Performance Boost in Recent Benchmark Leak

In a recent leak on Geekbench, the upcoming AMD Ryzen 5 8500G “Hawk Point” APU has shown a remarkable increase in performance compared to its predecessor, the Ryzen 5 5600G “Cezanne”. The Geekbench scores indicate that the 8500G is up to 36% faster in single-threaded tests and 11% faster in multi-threaded tests.

The AMD Ryzen 5 8500G is part of the Hawk Point APU lineup and is designed to be compatible with the AM5 desktop platform. It features the Zen 4 core architecture and the RDNA 3 graphics architecture, promising improved performance and efficiency. Unlike the higher-end SKUs in the lineup, such as the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G, the 8500G and the Ryzen 3 8300G will feature the A2 die, which comprises Zen 4 and Zen 4C cores.

The specifications of the Ryzen 5 8500G include 6 cores and 12 threads, a base clock of 3.55 GHz, and a boost clock of 5.0 GHz. It boasts 16 MB of L3 cache and 6 MB of L2 cache. The APU features a Radeon 740M GPU with 4 compute units clocked at 2800 MHz. The chip was tested on a Maxsun B650M motherboard with 32 GB of DDR5 memory.

The improved performance of the Ryzen 5 8500G is especially notable in single-threaded performance, making it an excellent choice for tasks that rely heavily on single-core processing power. Additionally, the Radeon 740M iGPU, with its double compute units compared to the previous generation, offers enhanced graphics performance for eSports titles and some AAA games utilizing upscaling technologies.

As we eagerly await AMD’s CES 2024 event, more information about the Ryzen 8000G “Hawk Point” APUs is expected to be revealed. According to previous reports, these APUs are set to hit retail shelves by January 31st. With the Ryzen 5 8500G showcasing such impressive performance gains, gamers and professionals alike have much to look forward to in this new lineup of APUs from AMD.
