Siemens Digital Industries Software has partnered with sureCore and Semiwise to push the boundaries of quantum computing by developing cryogenic CMOS circuits that can operate at temperatures close to absolute zero. This collaboration has the potential to significantly enhance the performance and power efficiency of next-generation integrated circuits (IC) for quantum computing, which is at the forefront of high-performance computing (HPC) research and development.

Control electronics capable of functioning at cryogenic temperatures are crucial in unleashing the potential of quantum computing for HPC and other rapidly growing applications. Leveraging Siemens’ advanced analog/mixed-signal IC design technology, Semiwise has created cryogenic CMOS circuit designs with cryogenic SPICE models and a SPICE simulator that can accurately analyze performance at cryogenic temperatures.

Semiwise is providing this intellectual property (IP) to sureCore, which aims to use it in the development of CryoCMOS control chips. These chips are essential for unlocking the commercial potential of quantum computing. To create its CryoIP product line, sureCore utilized Siemens’ Analog FastSPICE platform and Solido Design Environment software, which demonstrated reliable and accurate operation at cryogenic temperatures. This enabled sureCore to design analog circuits, standard cell libraries, and memory components such as SRAM, register files, and ROM using Semiwise’s cryogenic transistor models.

Paul Wells, CEO of sureCore, emphasized the significance of this partnership in developing reliable memory designs for quantum applications. Siemens’ commitment to advancing the quantum computing field is reflected in this collaboration, according to Amit Gupta, General Manager and Vice President of the Custom IC Verification Division at Siemens Digital Industries Software.

Siemens’ Analog FastSPICE platform, powered by technology from Analog FastSPICE eXTreme, provides cutting-edge circuit verification for nanometer analog, RF, mixed-signal, memory, and custom digital circuits. The platform offers a comprehensive set of features such as small signal, transient, RF, noise, aging, and multi-sim verification capabilities. Additionally, Siemens’ Solido Design Environment facilitates comprehensive analysis and optimization of circuit power, performance, and area, using AI technology to reduce runtime and improve statistical yield analysis accuracy.
