India’s Home Minister, Amit Shah, has called for the integration of databases and the implementation of an AI-driven analytical approach in order to address the challenges posed by emerging security threats. Shah made these remarks at the 58th conference of DGPs and IGPs, where he emphasized the importance of achieving consistency in the structure, size, and skills of counter-terror mechanisms across the nation.
Shah noted the considerable improvement in the overall security situation in India since 2014, particularly with regards to the reduction of violence in areas such as Jammu Kashmir, the Northeast, and regions affected by Left Wing Extremism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to interact with the country’s top police officers and address them during a formal session at the conference.
Shah highlighted two significant decisions made by the Modi government: the introduction of the National Education Policy and the enactment of three criminal justice laws to replace outdated colonial-era statutes. He stated that these new laws prioritize the delivery of justice over punishment and will establish a modern and scientific criminal justice system in the country.
The home minister emphasized the need to train police officers at all levels and to upgrade technology in order to effectively implement the new laws. He also emphasized the crucial role of internal security in realizing Prime Minister Modi’s vision of India becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The conference will cover various critical security-related issues, including border security, cyber threats, radicalization, fraudulent identity documents, and the challenges posed by AI. With a hybrid format, the event will see the physical attendance of DGPs, IGPs, and chiefs of Central Police Organizations in Jaipur, while over 500 police officers of different ranks will participate virtually.
