Union Home Minister Amit Shah has highlighted the importance of linking databases and adopting an AI-driven analytical approach to address emerging security challenges in India. Speaking at the 58th conference of DGPs and IGPs in Jaipur, Shah emphasized the need for uniformity in the structures, size, and skills of counter-terror mechanisms across the country. He commended the overall improvement in the security scenario since 2014, particularly the reduction of violence in Jammu and Kashmir, the northeast, and Left Wing Extremism-affected areas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to interact with the country’s top police officers and address them during the conference. Shah praised the National Education Policy and the enactment of three criminal justice laws to replace British-era statutes, stating that India is entering a new era of progressive development.
Shah called for the integration of databases and the use of AI technology to effectively tackle security challenges. He highlighted the importance of training police officers at all levels and upgrading technology from police stations to headquarters to ensure the successful implementation of the new laws. Furthermore, Shah emphasized the role of internal security in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
The conference aims to empower top police officials with insights into border management, fake identity documents, jail infrastructure, artificial intelligence, radicalization, and cybercrimes. It serves as a platform for decision-making and the formulation of new security strategies. Key issues, including border security, cyber threats, radicalization, and the fraudulent issuance of identity documents, will be extensively discussed during the event.
The conference is being held in a hybrid mode, with physical attendance from DGPs, IGPs, and chiefs of Central Police Organizations in Jaipur, while more than 500 police officers are participating virtually. The event will also focus on future themes in policing and security, such as the challenges posed by AI and deepfakes. Concrete action points will be identified and monitored to ensure progress in achieving security goals across the country.
