Revolutionizing Healthcare Efficiency: Nabla’s AI Copilot

Paris-based startup Nabla has recently secured $24 million in Series B funding to support its groundbreaking AI copilot for doctors and medical staff. Led by Cathay Innovation and with participation from ZEBOX Ventures, the funding round raises Nabla’s valuation to $180 million.

Nabla’s AI copilot acts as a silent work partner, sitting in the corner of a room during consultations. It takes notes, writes medical reports, and generates customized medical records for doctors, helping them save time on administrative tasks. The startup aims to enhance the efficiency of healthcare processes without replacing doctors.

The company was founded by Alexandre Lebrun, Delphine Groll, and Martin Raison. Lebrun, the CEO, was previously the CEO of Wit.ai, a prominent AI assistant startup that was acquired by Facebook. Nabla’s AI technology uses speech-to-text capabilities to transcribe consultations, capturing vital information such as medical vitals, drug names, and pathologies. With the assistance of a large language model refined with medical data, the AI copilot generates thorough medical reports with summary, prescriptions, and follow-up instructions — all within minutes.

In a live demo, Nabla impressed observers with its accuracy and effectiveness. The AI copilot successfully transcribed consultations, even in noisy environments, and produced reports that were both precise and useful. The tool allows doctors to have the final say, enabling them to review and edit reports before filing them in their electronic health record (EHR) systems.

While Nabla recognizes the importance of safeguarding sensitive data, the company ensures privacy by not storing audio or medical notes on its servers without consent from both the doctor and the patient. Instead, Nabla focuses on data processing and stores pseudonymized transcripts in the already established EHR systems that doctors use for their patient files.

Nabla’s commitment to working alongside physicians and healthcare professionals sets it apart from other ventures attempting to fully automate healthcare. By freeing up doctors’ time from administrative tasks, the AI copilot enables them to focus more on providing comprehensive patient care.

Ultimately, Nabla envisions a future where AI-powered automation can effectively support clinical assurance and decision-making processes, while doctors concentrate on surgery procedures, empathy, and critical decisions. The startup’s success and adoption by thousands of doctors in the United States reinforce its potential to revolutionize healthcare efficiency globally.
