Government Officials and Industry Experts Discuss AI and Simplified Service Delivery

High-level government officials and industry experts recently came together to discuss the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) for public grievance redressal and the promotion of universalized face authentication processes. The brainstorming session, titled ‘Emerging and Future e-Governance Initiatives, e-Commerce Initiatives, and Emerging Technologies’, aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange among key players in the field of e-service delivery and e-governance.

Organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) in New Delhi, the session attracted prominent representatives from leading organizations such as Deloitte, PwC, Primus Partners, KPMG, QCI, and EY, along with DARPG officials. The gathering served as a platform for sharing best practices, success stories, and insights into innovative technology implementation.

V Srinivas, the Secretary of DARPG, highlighted the significant expansion of e-service delivery across the country in recent years. According to the National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment report, there has been a substantial increase in the number of mandatory e-services provided by states and union territories, from 872 services in 2019 to 1,574 services in November 2023. Several states have already achieved full saturation by focusing on unified service portals as a one-stop solution for accessing e-services.

During the session, sector specialists discussed the achievements, emerging trends, and future direction of e-governance and e-commerce. They also presented global best practices case studies, emphasizing the importance of technology-driven reforms and highlighting the potential of AI in grievance redressal.

Looking ahead, Srinivas outlined key priorities for the government, including the promotion of universalized face authentication processes, the integration of AI in service delivery, and the expansion of e-commerce initiatives. The session concluded with an emphasis on the importance of strong media outreach to disseminate best practices.
