While AI has been a trending topic in the tech industry since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, it has now made its way into the crypto space. AI-related cryptocurrencies saw a boost in attention, with Akash Network (AKT) leading the pack, achieving a remarkable 13-fold increase in price. Render (RNDR), the largest AI token by market cap, closely followed with a 12-fold surge at its yearly high.
GameFi, the second most popular crypto narrative, also made waves in 2023. The fusion of gaming and decentralized finance attracted significant interest as seven major video game companies ventured into blockchain game development. In addition, the accessibility of gaming expanded with Pixels’ integration with Ronin, and the successful debuts of Illuvium and Gods Unchained on the Epic Games Store.
While AI and GameFi dominated the scene, the top blockchain ecosystems also created a buzz. CoinGecko’s study analyzed web traffic from January 1 to December 21, 2023, to determine the most popular crypto narratives. The top 15 narratives accounted for 72.3% of the total interest, covering a wide range of topics, including DeFi, NFTs, smart contract platforms, and FTX holdings.
