Intel and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have revealed the launch of a cutting-edge Athlete Assistance system powered by artificial intelligence to aid 11,000 athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Athlete 365 offers athletes quick and easy access to essential operational information through smartphones and personal computers with AI capabilities. The chatbot is operated by Intel Gaudi 2 AI accelerators on Intel’s Tiber cloud infrastructure, ensuring fast and efficient performance. Additionally, Intel has developed a customized Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) system, guaranteeing high accuracy in responses provided to athletes.

The benefits of Athlete 365 are manifold. The chatbot can deliver precise information to athletes when needed, assist in navigating Olympic facilities, and provide details on schedules, competition rules, and more. It enhances the operational efficiency of the games by supplying quick and accurate information on demand.

Utilizing an advanced language model called Mistral-7B, the Athlete 365 system combines natural language processing technologies to process questions and provide answers within half a second, thanks to a combination of Intel Gaudi 2 AI accelerators and Xeon processors.

The flexible technology allows for the addition of new documents during the event. Importantly, the system does not store users’ personal information, ensuring their privacy. It operates on Intel’s advanced cloud infrastructure, enabling fast and stable performance throughout the Olympic games.

In a demonstration for journalists, Intel showcased its ability to address a variety of questions effectively. The chatbot clarified guidelines for athletes regarding capturing and sharing photos and videos from game sites, emphasizing restrictions to ensure compliance with specific rules.
