Artificial Intelligence Impact on Workplace Gender Productivity

An artificial intelligence speaking with a female voice was found to increase the productivity of women in minority positions in a study conducted by researchers from Cornell University. This effect was not observed with a male voice. The study aimed to explore how workplace productivity could be enhanced under certain circumstances.

In the research, 180 participants were divided into teams of three individuals tasked with brainstorming ways to conserve water and energy, as well as determining which employee to promote. Each team included an artificial intelligence component, either speaking with a male or female voice. The teams consisted of two women and one man or vice versa, deliberately creating gender imbalances to study the impact.

Analysis of chat transcripts from the study revealed that when women were in the minority within a team, their performance improved when the artificial intelligence used a female voice. They exhibited higher levels of engagement in discussions and contributed more ideas. Even when women were the majority in the team, the presence of a female-speaking artificial intelligence seemed to positively influence their productivity.
